The Secret To Keeping Hardwood Floors Looking Beautiful
Hardwood floors are a big investment in your home, an investment that you want to keep looking beautiful as beautiful as possible. So what’s the secret to keeping them looking their best? Keep it simple. That’s it. Many times, homeowners go to great lengths to keep the shine on their hardwood, buying expensive cleaners or home waxing and shining products. But the best way to keep your hardwood is good shape is to keep your cleaning method simple.
Here are a few tips to help you do just that:
Placing door mats inside and outside your doors will keep dirt and moisture from being tracked onto your floors. Try making a station for family members to take off their boots in extra snowy or rainy weather. A towel to wipe your pet’s feet is also a good thing to have handy.
When dust and dirt get tracked onto your floors, they can create a sandpaper-like effect as you walk through your home. Over time, this can cause the finish on your floor to look dull. Simply dusting often with an inexpensive dust mop can keep your finish bright and shiny for years to come.
One of the worst things you can do to hardwood is to mop with harsh chemicals. Use a gentle soap that is specifically made for hardwood floors. (You can also use one cup of white distilled vinegar diluted in one gallon of warm water, it works great!) Use a damp mop, not wet. Using an excessively wet mop can leave standing water- and you do not want to leave standing water on hardwood. So make sure to wipe up any excess water after you mop. Let your floor dry completely before walking on it.
Using these tips will help to keep your hardwood looking great for years to come.
